Changing Faces of the Temple

here is a message from Minette:

"Olivia was so happy, busily preparing the Temple for our Imbolc Festival which took place on Saturday, 5th February 2011.  I went to visit her this Friday and took a look at her work and took photographs to share with you all.  The truth is that the Temple is never the same for long, it is a living creation and one which she takes great joy in.  The energy was absolutely wonderful on Saturday and the Temple was glowing.  We had a wonderful time together celebrating Brigid's Time of the year.

The first photo is, of course, of The High Altar with the Goddess Isis, veiled with the Veil of Bride for the "Ceremony of Unveiling of Truth" which was enacted by the Priesthood.

The second is of the Pisces Altar of Psyche with her emblems, her lamp and butterfly.

The third shows Olivia's painting of the MerGoddess Derceto, under the window on the right of Brigid-na-Mara over the Well; the Goddess Gangur from Rajasthan stands beside the Well, She is the Protectress of Women against excessive violence.

Ra Herut

RA-HERUT

This Sphinx has as Mystery the Riddle of the Inner Sun:-

“What is it that warms without burning,
That shines from the darkness
That is nowhere and everywhere?
Who answers this riddle
Has answered My Secret.

The Sphinx is between the Shrine of Kwan Yin of Compassion
And the High Altar of Isis of Truth.

Olivia is thrilled with Ra-Herut the female Sphinx, whom she 'created' in the past couple of days and wanted you all to have immediately!  As you will see she has been having a wonderful time adding to the Shrine of Kwan Yin which now has a number of delightful new touches, lots of green etc. and I have sent you the full-sized versions because she and I had a lot of fun seeing all the details on my camera when I blew them up fully to check the focus on them over lunch yesterday.

She invites you to look at the wonderful 'Green Man' on the chair beside the High Altar which is visible on the Ra-Herut close-up.  The Kwan Yin one yields lovely views of Sekhmet and the head of Bast visible in the Her Shrine behind the stained glass division.  She points out that there are two Solar details also and she loves all the close-ups of things which people don't really see just glancing even on a visit to the Temple.  Enjoy!

THE GOSPEL: The Good News According to Josephus

THE GOSPEL: The Good News According to Josephus / by FOI member C. G. Weiss, c2010.

New book presents legend and history simultaneously in an intriguing retelling.

In ancient times a “gospel” was part allegory, part aretology – a song of praise, usually to an emperor, after a military victory. Author C.G. Weiss melds together both legend and history in rendering the fascinating story of THE GOSPEL: The Good News According to Josephus.

It takes place in the year 95 C.E. (A.D.). Flavia Sabena -- a cousin to Emperor Domitian – holds a dinner party at her home on the last night of the Festival of Saturnalia. The hostess has invited eminent Jewish-Roman historian Flavius Josephus, as guest of honor, to give readings from his works while they wait up all night in their annual solar vigil celebrating the mid-Winter Solstice.

The GOSPEL narrative consists chiefly of Josephus’ monologue as speaker – shared with the younger Josephus in flashback, and interrupted at points by his fellow guests. Josephus’ account of his exploits in the Jewish War with Rome (66-70 C.E.) presents a re-telling from classical histories, -- primarily writings of Flavius Josephus: Antiquities, Wars and Life.

In the story being recounted, the “Good News” heralded Vespasian, the Roman emperor whose forces defeated the religious fanatics who led -- or forced -- the Jews to revolt against Rome. But resonating through the story is a silent theme of a New World coming – one that will be rather more than less Jewish as Romans begin to adopt the “manners” of the Jews. It is one that would replace the Roman pagan world. In the setting of the story, the building blocks of the coming culture lay scattered about, but with different significance attached.

Josephus’ Life and Wars, the official account of the Jewish War, together complete a puzzle that shimmers through the outline of The GOSPEL, which the reader is allowed to interpret. Inserts into Josephus’ narrative from other, mostly classical, sources provide a fuller depiction of the times. And Tacitus and Suetonius are guests at Flavia Sabena’s party and speak for themselves.
